3 Of The Nations Best Places To Live Are In Florida

Good jobs and beautiful locations are among the shared attributes that make Florida’s Weston, Wellington and Central Pasco three of the best places to live in the entire country.

So says Money magazine, which recently issued its annual "Best Places to Live in America" for 2016. The publication analyzed 60 different factors, from taxes and education to health care, crime, sports and employment, to compile its list of the "50 Best Small Cities in America."

The towns ranged between 50,000 and 300,000 people. Weston — located near Miami and Fort Lauderdale and known for its residents’ purchasing power — is home to 69,081. Wellington — located in Palm Beach County and known for “its prominence in the equestrian world” — has 61,790 residents. Central Pasco — the nation’s nudist capital, which is located on Florida’s Gulf Coast near Tampa — is home to 131,248 residents.

This year's rankings placed more weight on financial factors, such as job market, economic opportunity and housing affordability.

Weston, home to Cleveland Clinic Florida and Ultimate Software, landed at No. 8 on the list. Wellington ranked No. 36 and Central Pasco came in at No. 45.

Money noted that the median home price in Weston is $365,000, average property taxes are $7,672, the unemployment rate is 4.5 percent and the average commute time is 30 minutes.

In Wellington, the median home price is $335,000, average property taxes are $5,267, the unemployment rate is 4.9 percent and the average commute time is 30 minutes.

And in Central Pasco, the median home price is $185,276, average property taxes are $2,411, the unemployment rate is 5.2 percent and the average commute time is 32 minutes.

In addition to the more practical factors that helped the metro cities land on the list, Money said "Weston residents enjoy the kind of open space you won’t find in many places in the country. About 25 miles to the east is the Atlantic Ocean. And on Weston’s western flank is the Everglades."

Regarding Wellington, the magazine writes that "Although the developed area is polished and chic, Wellington’s appreciation of the natural landscape is evident in its abundant parks and preservations."

And the magazine said, "If you like spending time outside, then you’ll love Central Pasco. Dozens of lakes dot the landscape, while white-sand beaches are only about 30 miles west. And a network of parks and nature preserves help residents make the most of the area’s warm weather."
