Believe it or not the world really takes this day seriously. The United Nations proclaimed June 21st "The International Day of Yoga." The word yoga means to join or unite. The word also symbolizes the marriage between body and consciousness. It has been said that yoga first began in India and has been around for 5,000 years. Yoga has been proven to provide human beings with many benefits including improving your flexibility, muscle strength, posture, blood flow, boosts immunity, drops your blood pressure, and makes you happier. As a novice yogi, I initially began doing yoga to practice living in the moment but quickly realized that it was the most challenging exercise class I had ever taken. I have improved my core strength, endurance, and confidence in just a few months. In fact, I feel so confident now that I know that one day soon I will achieve my goal of being able to do a handstand. What many don't realize is that the discipline and confidence you gain from yoga translates into other parts of your life. I have fallen in love with it!
