A New Years resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western Hemisphere, but also found in the Eastern Hemisphere, in which a person makes a promise to do an act of self-improvement or something slightly nice for other people.
HOW DID IT START
Religious origins Babylonians made promises to their gods at the start of each year that they would return borrowed objects and pay their debts. The Romans began each year by making promises to the god Janus, for whom the month of January is named.
HOW LONG DOES THE AVERAGE PERSON KEEP THEIR NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
Surprisingly, 75% of resolutions will be continued through the entire first week of January, but only 46% make it past six months. University of Scranton also stated that 39% of people in their twenties will achieve their resolution each year while only 14% of people over 50 years of age will achieve theirs.
HERE ARE A FEW TIPS TO HELP YOU KEEP THAT RESOLUTION
1. Define your goals
2. Find strength in numbers
3. Take it one step at a time
4. Always track your progress
5. Treat yourself
6. Allow for setbacks
