New WaWa In West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH — Groundwork has begun on the future site of a Wawa Market, opposite Palm Beach International Airport.

Earth-moving equipment is clearing the former landfill, an 8.84-acre, contaminated site at the southeast corner of Belvedere Road and Australian Avenue, where the popular submarine sandwich and filling station chain plans to open one of its first Palm Beach County stores.

Brightwork Real Estate, a development firm based in Tampa and Palm Beach Gardens, plans to build the project in two phases, with the 6,119-square-foot, 16-pump gas station Wawa to come first at the northeastern corner of the property. The Wawa is expected to open in 2018, she said. The project represents an investment by Wawa of about $5 million and would employ at least 50 people, company officials have told the city.
